Description
Potassium metabisulphite (K-Meta) is a core winemaking additive used to protect wine from oxidation, inhibit unwanted microbial activity, and sanitize equipment throughout the winemaking process.
When dissolved, potassium metabisulphite releases sulphur dioxide (SO₂), which acts as an antioxidant and antimicrobial agent. It is commonly used before fermentation, after fermentation, and prior to bottling to help preserve freshness, aroma, and overall wine stability.
K-Meta is also widely used as a sanitizing solution for carboys, bottles, hoses, corkers, and other winemaking equipment. It is preferred over sodium metabisulphite by many winemakers due to its minimal impact on sodium levels in wine.
An essential product for both home winemakers and commercial producers, potassium metabisulphite helps ensure clean fermentations and long-lasting, stable wines.
